Who Is Ryan Flournoy?

Ryan Flournoy is a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. Born October 27, 1999, in Hazel Crest, Illinois, he played college football at Central Missouri, Iowa Western, and Southeast Missouri State. He was drafted in the 6th round (216th overall) by Dallas in 2024.

He’s 6’1″ tall and weighs about 200 lbs.   During his rookie year, he played in 11 games, making 10 catches for 102 yards.

2025 Season and Roster Moves

Elevated and Signed to Active Roster

- For the 2025 season opener, Flournoy was elevated from the Cowboys’ practice squad.

- On September 13, 2025, he was officially signed to the 53‑man roster to fill a spot after Dallas placed Perrion Winfrey on injured reserve.

Game Performance Highlights

- In a recent Sunday Night Football (SNF) game vs. the Packers, he had both his targets caught for 14 yards, and also gained 12 yards on one carry.

- With star receiver CeeDee Lamb sidelined due to injury, Flournoy’s snap count and opportunities increased, making him more visible in the offense.

- Earlier, in a preseason game vs. the Falcons, he caught 4 of 5 targets for 45 yards, showing off his receiving skills.

- He made his first catches of 2025 against the Bears: 2 catches for 21 yards.

Roster Shifts and Risk

- Before being elevated in 2025, he had been waived by the Cowboys and re-signed to the practice squad.

- Due to roster constraints, he was recently waived by the Cowboys in August 2025 but could return via practice squad moves.

- Despite being cut, many analysts believe he still has upside and value, especially in special teams or as depth receiver.

What Makes Him Interesting?

- Catch Efficiency: In 2024, he had the highest catch percentage among Cowboys receivers (71.4%) despite limited opportunities.

- Praise from Leaders: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has compared him to Dez Bryant, calling him a player with potential and star quality.

- Versatility: He contributes not only as a receiver but also on special teams, which increases his value to the team.

- Roster competition: He is competing with several wide receivers (Jalen Brooks, Jalen Tolbert, Traeshon Holden, etc.) to establish himself.

What to Watch Next

1. Playing Time with Injured Players

With Lamb injured, Flournoy’s chances to get more offensive snaps are rising — this could be his chance to shine.

2. Staying on the Active Roster

His position is not guaranteed. Dallas may still move him back to the practice squad — so consistency in performance is key.

3.Impact in Big Games

If he continues to make catches and earn trust from coaches, he could become a reliable option in important games.

4.Special Teams & Value Plays

Even if he doesn’t start often, his role on special teams gives him a path to stay relevant on the roster.
